Well, I saw it first hand last night.
Went out for dinner with friends.
Their 3 teen aged kids were with.
They were on their phones texting for 15 minutes non stop.
The dad had enough and took one phone to see who was so important to ignore the rest of the table.
Turns out that the kids were texting each other.
Dad collected the phones, told them they had been warned before and said they could get the phones back...
after the weekend.
I loved it.
Sadly this it the way of the future in many circles.
The lost are of the verbal communication!
We see couples without kids in a restaurant never saying a word to each other but on their phones through the entire meal. It's idiotic. As for kids not communicating at a table whether in a restaurant or at home... it's up to the parents to set the rules and enforces them. Good for this Dad!
Good morning again William. This is sad and you ae right. Too bad. If this is progress you can have it.
Good morning William Feela,
It is such a shame these kids felt they had to text each other rather than join in the conversation. We often take our older grandchildren to lunch and they have their phones but don't use them..we always have a fun, engaging conversation with them and everyone talks. I'm going to miss 2 of them who will be leaving soon.....Hailey is off to NY City for her job in August and Trey will be back at Texas A&M.
We are trying our best to teach our children to actually socialize with people and part of that plan involves no electronics at the table.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Many adults have these same habits.
Hey, I can fully relate. I have sat in a silent room with grandkids who came many miles to see me, but were texting their friends back home that they see every day.
Kids would rather text than talk. I don't get it. I remember spending hours on the phone with my girlfriends. This is a new age.
At least the father took action, I have seen the opposite with no supervision. As long as the children are being quiet some parents don't care William...
The only good thing about this is when they are texting they are not yelling and disrupting everyone else!
