William's Blog...with a smile!

People just are not getting the message.

I got a call yesterday from a couple looking to view a  home.

I got the address and nothing.

I did all sorts of searches in the area they said the home was in.

I called them back, "Where did you see this home listed?"

Well, on zillow of course!

"I will call you back in a few minutes."

I did some checking and sure enough, the home sold over 13 months ago.

I called the people back and told them it was not for sale and had been sold...

Impossible,, zillow said it is for sale.  Why would they say otherwise.

I gave the people   several other web sites, Mine, Realtor.com, and 2 other agencies.

"Call me if you find this home on these web sites."

I did not hear a thing.

I will call and try to talk to them this evening.  See if they wised up.

Just amazing, isn't it, Bill? And I do believe those people called me about a home in Charlotte recently, as well!  All I can say is that Zillow has done a masterful job of convincing the public they are the be all and end all for real estate information while many in this industry were asleep at the switch.

Happens to be all the time too Bill. Super frustrating especially when the caller thinks I'm the one at fault.

Have a home right behind my office we listed, sold. And the ZZzzzzz said it was not on the market when it was at a small fraction of the price we got sold it for in the zestimate. Never trust a west coast algorithm or andoid app in rural market property sale. And this same place is showing up as now for sale after we sold it long ago... keep getting updates on the zestimate that is still way low on the price we sold it for many moons ago. Buyers and sellers grill us on why the Z does this, is showing that which is wrong... we tell them once it syndicates, any changes go on deaf ears. Lousy on line experience for them using ZZzzzzz and missing so much information let alone the wrong status on the listing sale.

Why oh why do people think Zillow is the end all?  Is it because they have been so good at marketing themselves? Why can't we be better as we are so much more accurate? There has to be a lesson there somewhere.

Gotta love those calls.  I get them all the time and they are asking about homes that sold long long ago in another galaxy far far away.

Maybe we need the Pres... to call out the Zzzz as FAKE real estate news.

I wonder how all the law suits against them are coming along?  Of course justice takes time.

William Feela Another example of the oft quoted phrase, "You can give a horse water, but you can't make it drink". Good luck with these less than serious buyers. At least that is what I consider the 'buyers' who live and breathe Zillow.

At the beginning of this week, I got a call from "Terry." who wanted the price on a home I have listed.  When I tried calling back (several times now), the voice message states, the recipient isn't accepting calls currently.

When I tell folks the home sold a long time ago the response is usually I figured as much as it sounded too good to be true.

What ever happened to this buyer? Did they realize you knew what you were talking about? Or did they disappear into the ether...
