William's Blog...with a smile!

Do you think this was overkill?

This house belonged to a relative of a friend.

When we walked into the old 3 story house you could tell the years had taken it's toll.

I was asked to go downstairs for some reason and when I did...

I nearly ran up the stairs and out the door.

There were no less than 14 of this jack and post setup holding up the house.

It would not have surprised me if this house had fallen into the basement just from us walking in it.

I had posted this photo before and was  talking to a client about what to worry about in a basement and this came to mind.

A hard hat would not do much good if the whole house fell on you. Running up the stairs might have shaken the house down around you.

Wow! What a frightening situation for everyone.  You need an engineer to tell you if the house can be made safe.

William Feela : creative owners! perhaps concrete blocks with re bars filled with mortar would help some on top of 2-3 feet pads. Interesting subject.

Good morning William.  Looks like there's some serious work needed if they want to keep or sell this home.

I would love to see the home inspection written up on that house!  What an adventure.

Good morning again William. This is incredible. I never saw this until buying here in the Berkshires. Many homes have trees in the basement.

It is a clasic photo Bill, I am sure that the house will outlast both of us, those old houses last forever.
