William's Blog...with a smile!

You just bought a home with a wood fireplace.

Your new home has a wood fireplace or free standing stove.

Never had a wood burning setup, so Now What.

First, decide if you want to use it.

Wood can be messy.  Smell and even bring in bugs.

After a period of time you  need to get up on the roof and clean the chimney ore hire it done.

You need to decide if you will cut your own wood or buy it.

Is the wood on your land?

Do you have a chains saw and a  wood splitter?

And about a place to store it.

I an not trying to talk you out of it, I love my wood stove although it is an out door burner so I don't get the mess.

bu, I do cut my own wood.  I have a tractor to haul it out of my  OWN woods.

Cutting your own firewood can save a lot of money, but going at it blind can be dangerous.

Partner up with an experienced wood cutter and listen to what the dangers are.

.

This is just a small start for me each year.  I usually need 15 of these loads

Remember...SAFETY FIRST!!!!

The benefits of wood burning heat can be two fold.  One, IMO, wood heat can not be bettered, and two if one is cutting and hauling his own it turns out to be a great cardiovascular work out.  Mark

Good evening William Feela ,

In Austin we are lucky to be able to have one to 3 times a year to use our fireplace. I'll stick with our gas logs to create the abidance when we need it! LOL!

For me I prefer a home with a fireplace . . . . and it's getting to the time of the to start using them.

Good luck and success.
