William's Blog...with a smile!

I have never been accused of being Politically correct.

Yes it is true...I am not one that goes out of my way to be P.C. but I am also not one to go out of my way to offend someone.

This example from yesterday...

I told a friend I was having coffee with that I had to get home, the garbage man will be coming.   He replies you mean sanitation engineer. NO, I mean garbage man.  I have been calling them garbage men for years and I don't believe they have an engineers license.  My name for the service is not degrading it is what they do.

The person who delivers my mail most of the time is a woman.  My wife yells, mailman is here. Are we putting this person down...NO...it is a common name for the job being done.

Weather man is on...some call the lady a meteorologist.  That is great they have a title...still it has been the weather man for 0ver 55 years and it is still that occupation...weatherman.  Again, not a slam on the person, it is the long standing term for the job.

I could go on and on.  I have all kinds of people trying to tell me what to call people.  Well, it would be a great help if occupations didn't rename themselves...same goes try for some groups of people.

One that really gets me is:  Native American and not Indian.  But, "THEY" have   "THE INDIAN RELIEF COUNCIL."   OK You want to be referred to Native American but you refer to yourselves as Indian's with that title.

And I could go on  and on.

So, politically correct NO, NO, NO.  I will never try to be and I will never use a name in a way to belittle a group.  There are groups that do that themselves

I have had to learn to say Native American.  The reason was because I worked several years at a software development company.  We had folks from India. They were Indians, not to be confused with our Native American Indians.

Bill I have to agree with you...We have gone so over board with the PC.

Sad part is that some groupls keep changing what they want to be called.  Time for them to make up their minds

Yes Bill, when I see the garbage person show up with a slide rule and a clip board I may consider it, but he/she may have to pass a test first and show me a degree in engineering.
