Ice fishing safety...

Every year we hear people falling through the ice and many do not live to talk about it.

So, here are some key ideas to stay safe.

1 make sure the ice is more than 4 inches thick and not a lot of snow.

2 wear ice grip handles that are attached like idiot gloves when we were kids.  If you fall in, they are right at your fingers to help you get yourself out.

3.Wear a life jacket. I  can be under your coat and it will also help keep you warm.  Now days they have very thin ones that inflate when you hit the water.

4 fish with a buddy

5 If fishing alone, tell someone where you are fishing and when you plan to be back.  Good idea to check in every hour or so.

There are just a few of the tips you need to think about.  The water is only about 34 degrees and you will lose body heat very quickly.  Make your outing a safe one!

It can be a very deadly thing Bill, and it happens instantaneously.  fortunately all the times I fell through the water was shallow enough to allow me to get out quickly.
